About

Landscape oil painting expresses my love of nature. While growing up in Woodway Park, north of Seattle, I explored the beach and forest daily. I was able to enjoy nature inside as well when traveling into wonderful worlds portrayed by the impressionist painters. Besides creating a unique and vibrant home, my curiosity and imagination was enlivened by expressive paintings of Van Gogh, Gauguin, Sargent, and Monet.

As a young child, I skied, camped, and climbed mountains. In the sixties, being introduced to sea kayaking and travel inspired me to record my adventures with a camera. I sketched and finished a painting occasionally, yet other interests and lack of encouragement diverted my attention. For the next twenty years, working with color and texture as a fiber artist expanded my art education.

While raising three daughters and working, I took several outdoor sketching classes. Shortly after moving to the San Juan Mountains in Colorado, the dramatic fleeting light amongst craggy mountains beckoned me to get my oils out. I studied classic books on painting, took several workshops, completed works, and participated in outdoor painting events. Observing directly from nature, with the many challenges of light and weather, broadened my skills. In over twenty years of oil painting, I have been in solo exhibitions, group shows, art studio tours, and plein air events.

I continue to pack painting materials, camping gear, and a camera to commune with nature. Here I gather strength, peace, and the desire to share her beauty with you.

Enjoy,

Kawtee Wolfe
